Yoto Carnegies Shortlists Announced

Yoto Carnegies Shortlists Announced

The Yoto Carnegies, a cherished tradition in the realm of children's literature, celebrated as the UK's oldest and most beloved book awards exclusively dedicated to children and young people. These prestigious awards honour exceptional literary and illustrative works that captivate young minds and hearts.

The Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing stands as a testament to outstanding storytelling in English, recognised by children's librarians who have an eye for exceptional literary experiences tailored for a younger audience. Meanwhile, the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration shines a spotlight on remarkable artwork that breathes life into the stories.

What sets the Yoto Carnegies apart is their unique judging process, solely entrusted to librarians, ensuring a legacy of literary excellence. Past laureates include luminaries such as Arthur Ransome, C.S. Lewis, Terry Pratchett, Philip Pullman, and many more, whose works have left an indelible mark on the landscape of children's literature.

At its core, the mission of the Yoto Carnegies is clear: to empower librarians to inspire the next generation, nurturing a love for reading that transcends generations and fosters a better world through the transformative power of books. The shortlists for Medal for Writing and the Medal for Illustration have recently been announced, and a selection of these titles are available in the shop now. The winners will be announced in June!
