Jhalak Prize

October Books has been a supporter of the Jhalak prize since its inception. Sharing our passion for cultural and social diversity, the prize is unique in that it accepts entries published in the UK by writers of colour. These include (and not limited to) fiction, non-fiction, short stories, graphic novels, poetry and all other genres, broadening the scope of what is considered ‘literary’.

The Booker International

We all know the Booker Prize as one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world. However, in the last decade or so, we feel that the quality and diversity of work represented by the Booker International Prize has far exceeded the UK based equivalent. Inviting submissions from any language or nationality, an added benefit is that most of these books have also been published independently, something October Books passionately supports.
