Conversations about the Climate Change Emergency

Conversations about the Climate Change Emergency

We've seen some creative use of the shop space and Community Space recently - take a look at the photo in the header! An OB member used October Books as the venue to discuss the upcoming Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill with local politicians, to urge the UK government to act after declaring a climate emergency back in 2019.

This is exactly what October Books membership is all about. If you'd like to use the space for something similar - get in touch!

We have some other climate emergency events coming up too, do sign up to our book talk about Fire, Storm and Flood on Thursday 5th by local author James Dyke. The book is an unflinching photographic record of the epic effects of a violent climate, from the earliest extinction events to the present, in which we witness climate chaos forced by unnatural global warming. It uses often emotional and moving imagery to drive home the enormity of climatic events, offering a sweeping acknowledgment of our planet's heart-breaking vulnerability and show-stopping beauty.  livestream: Fire, Storm & Flood by James Dyke

And we also have a No more Fossil Fuels exhibition popping up in our community space…. It’ll be here until someone else books it. So if you have an event, space or community gathering where you can show the exhibition then do drop Clare a line clare[at]octoberbooks[dot]org

We are open:

Monday - Saturday

10am - 4pm

We are back open six days a week, with the whole store open for browsing. We will still of course be taking customer orders and you will still be able to buy food and cleaning products online through our online store.

We are able to be open 6 days a week again because of your consideration and care whilst in the shop. Though things are opening up, covid cases are still high and a lot of our staff have only received one jab. So we are asking customers to continue to leave that extra space, sanitise their hands and pull on their mask. We really appreciate it.
